Google
insists webmasters adhere to their ‘rules’ and aims to reward sites
with high quality content and remarkable ‘white hat’ web
marketing techniques with high rankings. Conversely it also needs to
penalise web sites that manage to rank in Google by breaking these
rules.
SEO (search engine optimisation) is a technical and creative
process to improve the visibility of a website in search engines, with
the aim of driving more potential customers to it.
Are you looking
for ways to boost your web search engine ranking? If so, you need to
learn the basics of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) or hire someone to
handle this part of your business. Either way, you should be involved in
this aspect since it is so important to its success.
It works like
this. . . first, you build a website. Hopefully you've created your
website the right way by using the right structure and keywords so that
your site is on the right path to being search engine optimized. If you
use the right SEO (search engine optimization) strategies, you will come
up high in search engine ranking.

Don't worry. When most
newcomers to the net hear the term SEO (or even worse, Search Engine
Optimization), they get a deer-in-the-headlights sort of look. But SEO
is really not complicated at all. The concept is very simple. The
methods that you can use to optimize your site can be time-consuming and
mundane, but they are not really hard to understand.

And there
are many, many ways that you can increase your web search engine
ranking. There really is no "best way". They all work as long as you
stick to them and do them consistently. But one of the most popular ways
of increasing your site's visibility is to write and distribute
articles about the products or services that you offer. Actually, the
articles will not necessarily be directly about your products or
services. Rather, they will be focused on the terms that people are
typing into their search engine when they are looking for what you have
to offer. These terms are called keywords, and your articles will be
based around all of the keywords that are relevantto your niche. Find
the keywords that you want to target at the Google Adwords Free Keyword
Research tool. Write a 500-page article or so that includes one keyword
in the title and then in 3% of the rest of the article. Submit this
article to Article Directories and link it back to your website. It is
important to remember here that your link can only be included in your
"bio box" or "resource box" that comes at the end of the article. This
short paragraph must compel the reader to click on the link. If you've
written a good article and can follow it up with the promise of more in
your resource box, then your readers will click.
Keyword Research is
one of the most important activity of SEO. Keyword research is important
because both the search engine and users depend upon keyword for
finding your website. Choose the right keyword for your brand and
website.
Be careful to not choose keywords that are too broad or too
competitive. If the match is too broad, you likely will end up with a
high bounce rate and low conversion rate because of people clicking
through to your site and not finding what they are looking for.
Quantity VS Quality
Make
sure that your content delivers what promised in the title. If for
example your title is “How to lose 15 pounds of fat” make sure that your
post provides an accurate description (or steps) that someone can
follow to achieve the desired result.
Check your text for typos, spelling and grammar mistakes.
Format your text (as explained in Tip 8 above)
Provide links within your content (where appropriate) to other pages on your site (or other sites) to get more information.
Include
references from established research or studies (where appropriate) to
prove that what you are saying or suggesting is correct.
Optimize Page Titles & Meta Description
Every
page on your website should have a unique title tag and it should be
less than 70 characters. Similarly Meta description of your post should
be between 150-160 characters. This is important because search engines
reads meta description for understanding the content in a post.
Determine Your Website Speed
Once you have taken care of the big errors, it’s time to focus on website speed.
Visitors
will not hang around and wait for a slow website to load. Your
customers will click back to Google to find a faster website, which is
likely to be a competitor!
In fact, research shows that 40% of people
abandon a site that takes longer than 3 seconds to load! Don’t lose
customers because your site is slow.
Internal Linking
The next
step is internal linking. You might not have heard of this before, but
I’m sure you know what it is. This is when you link pages of your
website to other pages within your website.

Internal linking allows you to establish your own anchor text, which can help you with ranking for your top keywords.
The
reason that you want people to click on your website link (besides the
fact that you just want visitors) is because you then start to establish
what are called backlinks to your site. Backlinks are important for web
search engine ranking because they tell the search engines that others
find it worth their while to link to you. They key is that the links
should come from high quality sites. If you get links from low-quality
sites, this will not increase your rank, and it might actually hurt it.
Once
you have completed your website, you should create and submit a sitemap
to Google so it can crawl your entire website and index each page.
Mobile Version of Website
It’s really important to have a mobile-friendly version of your site.
Need some convincing? Check out these stats:
31% of mobile Internet users “mostly” go online using their phones (Pew, 2012)
61% of customers who visit a mobile unfriendly site are likely to go to a competitor’s site (IAB)
58% of mobile users expect mobile sites to load as quickly or faster than desktop sites (Google, 2011)
Many
companies have had issues with the mobile versions of their websites.
Because they produced duplicate content, it creates SEO problems and
affects Google’s algorithm for your ranking.
With the advent of
responsive website design, you can code a site so that it works on any
device (desktop, tablet, mobile phone) without creating multiple sites.
This is great news for e-commerce sites.
You can also look at your
competitor sites and do some analysis to find what links they are
getting so that you can go for the same links.
There are many reasons you should optimize your site for search engines, but the bottom line is to increase sales.
